It's all a numbers game ( statistics ). There's obviously a lot of suspicion about what goes on out there in the field. I'd prefer the geographical tracking of techs to make sure they are where they should be rather than the baseball bat of stats.

And the rumour is, is that tracking via the mobile phone network is being trialled.

Just another straw. Can't wait for the revolution.

Is it wrong for Telstra to seek to reduce cost in an environment where they are loosing revenue?

No, but I do think that they are being unreasonable, and the strikes of recent years by contractors shows that many agree.

Is the quality dropping because the changes are incorrect or is the quality dropping because some take no pride in their workmanship. Is quality only possible without reasonable quantity?

Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Sure you can ratchet down the prices and still get good work, but you're losing any goodwill, and anyone that is able to do something better leaves, and those are usually the ones that do a good job all the time.

I can't say whether Telstra have gone too far, I just stated my opinion.

I'd prefer the geographical tracking of techs to make sure they are where they should be

    Good idea.

And the rumour is, is that tracking via the mobile phone network is being trialled.

Thats not exacly accurate and is time and personel consuming.

Whats reasonable quantity?.There comes a point where quality and quantity are not compatible. The techs are always under pressure to do more with the pressure of more job cuts being talked about. The contractors have been screwed down on prices so they need to work faster to make a dollar.
Some will cope better than others as they have a better technique and work ethos to start with.
