The UK seems to be criminalising it. Won't be long before private VPNs will start to be attacked

Exactly, and they are already talking about making encryption illegal as well.

For 'national security' reasons, of course; but maybe it also nicely happens to suit the movie studios . . .

yeah make encryption illegal and watch the hackers strip peoples bank accounts. Also encryption is everywhere on every consumer device , app and web page you use. David Cameron really is a fool.

Just shoot whoever catches you. You will get less than 10 years...

Has anyone here even bothered to read the article?

No offense but it makes it pretty clear its targeted towards organised / commercial collective groups:

"Although targeted at online piracy, casual file-sharers have little to worry about. The new legislation will be targeted at those involved in organized and commercial copyright infringement. This would include operators of large piracy sites, but not their users."

What amuses me is the staggering amount of tax payers money wasted by governments and courts around the world while these idiots try to preserve their dinosaur business model.

Spotify is the reason a lot of people I know stopped pirating music. Maybe we (as in globally; all people) should stop wasting our tax money and tell those nuggets to get a grip on reality and learn from Spotify.

The age old rule of the internet is the more you fight it the quicker you sink in it. Just accept that people will always steal (since they weren't going to pay anyway what difference does it make to you on a digital system) and catch up to 10 years ago.

    Also, good luck with that.

Make encryption illegal and watch anyone with intellectual property leave your country faster than the tides come in and out. The global corporation I work for would pack up and leave the next day.

Tunein too. My favorite. Bring me what I want instantly and easily any time should be the name of the game. The RIAA and MPAA are so far behind the times its pretty sad. The way people protect their outdated business model like that old dinosaur from Vuillage Roadshow who refuses to entertain digital downloads is just pathetic. They instead choose to sue , lobby governments all to try and protect a model that comes from the early days of VHS.

No offense taken, but we may need to remember that this is only an initial proposal.

In other words, once the official apparatus is in place, it's London to a brick that Hollywood and their minions will be demanding 'a few small incremental changes', otherwise known as scope creep.

The millions in 'donations' they give the political parties suggest they may well get just what they want.
