Well as of yesterday Redland Bay Mt Cotton & Carbrook FTTN roll-out has finally started.

It is Bay-side Brisbane approx 40 km Sth East of the city on the edge of Moreton Bay.
The civil [earthworks] have started first Nodes are there ready to be stood.

Fibre about to go in soon as well;0

Pity about the waterlogged and plastic bag work all through the area (speaking as both a resident and someone who dealt with copper faults).

Down to the last pair in my street in Victoria Point, lucky for us fttn isnt till 2017 in our suburb.

Our local Fed Politician loves spouting propaganda with little fact in regards to fttn, funny that he is living in a fttp estate that wont have issues.

There is good & bad thru all area's not just VAPT or REDL exchange area's.

    Likewise

They all do that... he's not on his Pat Malone

And yet they decide to spend 2/3 the cost of what full fibre would have cost, then commit to many years of fixing faults.
I fail to see any logic there.

Good luck when there is another large flood, fttp wont take much of a hit compared to fttn that wont survive at all.

All valid points ... but you ARE in the wrong thread in making it.

The mods will be on to ya;)

The build contract for Redland Bay/Mt cotton rollout has been given to Downer.

Not sure myself who is actually doing the Civil work[digging & standing Nodes] Fibre work hauling work or copper work yet.

  • TheRealFace

So my father lives in Carbrook and he reckons he's getting the node out the front of his place because he received a letter in the mail attached with a image of how the node works, what it looks like, etc, despite all the copper lines in the area being connected up to a CMUX ~800m from him.

NBNCo wouldn't go through the effort of adding a node to every couple of streets with an average 10 homes, would they?

They may have too... as I know that area quite well & was wondering myself how they are going to cover these semi rural locations of Rocky passage rd Teviot rd Muriel st scenic rd area's.

They are ripping into it in Redland Bay [itself] @ the moment trucks everywhere maybe a little whiles before they get out to Carbrook area though.

Cruised thru Reddie Bay today 15+ Nodes stood so far, they were currently working on several others.
Downer vehicles present & Civil contractors & haulers in numerous locations.

Saw 3 Micro Nodes on the back of a truck waiting to be deployed somewhere.
TBH I think there maybe quite a few more of them put in. In the sparser/acreage area's of Redland Bay/Pt Talburpin/Carbrook & Mt Cotton.

Due to a material shortage [Nationally of copper gear] no copper work has started yet apparently.

Wouldn't it cost less to do FTTP?

Nah still have the last x metres to do. Copper already there underground serving that purpose, so still much cheaper fttn.
Besides, I believe the gov has announced that everything is being challenged so if it IS cheaper to do FTTP, then they will in a particular scenario (instead of holding an ideological stance like they did in the past).

    Cheers...

In money, of course...but in political capital it is more expensive. Guess which one wins?

    Nice pics!

What's the progress looking like in Redland Bay at the moment?
Are there many nodes rolled out yet?

Also, do you know if they're out in Carbrook yet?

    Cheers.

I am interested to see how this goes, I am on Kingfisher Road in Mount Cotton and the vast majority of the houses here are 10 acres or more like mine.

I assume they would put it maybe a smaller cabinet, and I guess as our drive way and our neighbours are close they would put one between us?, its a long road like 2kms.

Still can't believe its happening, being on acreage I thought we would be last to get it, I thought I would be stuck on 2.5mbs adsl forever.

I live in the Silkwood estate, and we are getting FTTP.

Silkwood is a greenfields site so it is separate to the NBN FTTN rollout.

Your builder should have provided provision for the fibre lead-in to your house. It sounds like you are already moved in? If so contact one of the RSP's (Telstra, TPG etc) and place an order. They'll organise for the fibre lead in and nbn box to be installed etc.

I'm in the first stage, which isn't part of the Greenfield. But for some reason we are getting FTTP.

All of Silkwood is greenfield. You wouldn't be getting fibre if it wasn't.

I don't think so, the mynbn shows as FTTN for my address. I did receive a letter from the NBN about 6 months ago, saying we are getting FTTP. We moved in, in 2009, so I don't think we are Greenfield.

Have you rung NBN yet to ask what the hold up is??

I have been looking at the Micro Node Status in 4RED-02 & 4RED-03 NBN has changed the Status of premises connected to Micro Nodes from Additional work required to NBN has not started Construction in your Area as of yet. So I have been even more demoted in the NBN connection Race.

Looking at the new construction of houses close to your area maybe that wasn't on the plans when NBN where designing the area and that has upset the apple cart. Maybe your little area will get a Micro Node installed as the distance from the Macro Node is too great for the amount of traffic on the copper to get the so called 25/5 minimum speed.

The local Federal member when I asked when are the Micro Nodes going to be made active?? His response was " An area is made active when 90% of the premises have been passed, there is another 6 months to complete the other 10%. There must be a "We have a problem Huston" moment in Redland Bay as all the premises were passed in November 2015.

As all the Macro Nodes in Redland Bay (02&03) area appear to be active, The three Macro down the bottom end are active. So three small pockets of NBN in a area that has "NBN construction Not Started"

Not sure what is happening in Mt Cotton, mynbn now shows Estimated end date as not available.

mynbn seems to have rolled back to an older map. We were addressed as build commenced now we don't seem to be anything.
A mate lives off Seeana drive and there was a lot of work being done about 2 weeks ago in his street.
I spoke to velocity team and they reckon we would retain our ftth and velocity would get scrapped. But every day with them is a different story.

    Sorry Kingbucktoo,
I stopped following the thread by accident.

I have talked to NBN and cant get anything out of them. I also talked to the Federal member and they said it was likely early next year.
Just keeping my fingers crossed that they put a micro-node closer.
