Varsity Lakes, Worst Internet in Aus part 1

I just moved to Varsity Lakes next to the Junior College (Townhouse complex).

It seriously has been a joke!

No one can service me! not even Telstra! Ports at the exchange have been all taken up! (This was for a ADSL connection because I can't get ADSL+2/cable... pair gains technology!)

Fustrated, I got myself a prepaid wireless broadband until I can sort this out!

Makes me want to move but signed a 1 year lease! :(

more likely ports on the RIM/CMUX have been taken up

you will need to choose an ISP and ADSL1 plan and continually apply and reapply and apply and reapply and apply and reapply until a port frees up and at same time you have an application in the system

which DA are you on? do an address search http://www.yourbroadband.com.au

Distribution Area: BURL118 (DA has 1 ADSL ports as at 2011-09-09)

Does that mean there is a port available?

Possibly, however the report that site pulls the information from can be sometimes weeks out of date, even though it shows the site updadted it on the 09/09/2011.

The current report which was published a few days ago shows there is 2 ports available on Burleigh DA0118. It's possible that these have allready been taken, but if i was you i would apply ASAP with a provider that supports up to 8mbit.

Below is the report updated usually updated once a week showing port availablitly.

    +1
only way to confirm is to apply ;)
and reapply and reapply and reapply when rejected :(

    Thanks Everyone!

I just put another application with Telstra online (faster than speaking to person on telephone).

    Hopefully it goes through!

you can track your order here https://my.bigpond.com/tracking/default.do , just make sure it says "ADSL" not "ADSL2+", as it will need to be remediated by bigpond with the correct speed.

Let us know how you go :), you should get an ETA within 24 hours, it will show on that tracking site, but keep in mind, all applications get given an ETA initally. But within 24 hours of being given an ETA, it will go to "Parked" status if there is no port.

They only gave me a customer ref no.

    Doesn't fit, must be different?

I didn't check if it was adsl or adsl+2

The thing is I cancelled the home line after the 1st attempt because was only needed for the adsl. Will I have to wait again before the homeline is active before they can connect me?

    bad move

you must keep your phone service connected to get any ADSL cheapest is Homeline Budget $23

Will I have to wait again before the homeline is active before they can connect me?

    yes

did you apply for a bundle?

Yes I got the $99 Bundle 200gb. Took the T-box/T-Hub option out which brings it down to $88.

I called to cancel the bundle when I was told they had no ports. The guy over the phone did advise me to keep the phone line but was upset at the time and didn't want to pay for line rental not knowing when I was going to get connected.

Being 4km from the exchange, I'm now wondering if the speed of the adsl connection is going to be any good?

    Being 4km from the exchange,

distance to BURL exchange is irrelevant ... in effect the RIM/CMUX cabinet is your 'exchange' and is located somewhere in your vicinity

did advise me to keep the phone line but was upset at the time and didn't want to pay for line rental not knowing when I was going to get connected.

if order gets rejected you'll have to keep the phone connected and CONTINUALLY apply and reapply

Is anyone else suffering extremely frequent prolonged dropouts in varsity this week? Energex had a list of people with scheduled power outages, and varsity was on it from 8-4 Thursday / Friday. Since then, I have been losin my broadband connection for sometimes hours at a time (at night).
Rang aapt today and the girl was saying I'm the only one that has complained and they haven't received any outage notices.

We've created petitions, we've complained to the council, we've complained to Telstra and whats been done? Nothing.

Get everyone to disconnect their internet and phone lines all together.
Im sure 40k people disconnecting their service will ruffle a few feathers.
But as if that many people would even do that. Not even half or .
